about

a live version of mr radio, originally released on "move." recorded by danny abrams @ local 506 in chapel hill, nc. mixed by saman khoujinian at sleepy cat recording in carrboro, nc.

this show was the last date of the famously local tour, the first time matt phillips & cameron cook went out on the road together in october of 2015. cam played sax, tj richardson on bass, justin longoria on drums.

the intro riff is a section of "nardis," a song by miles davis, made popular by bill evans. the riff at the end is part of a new original song called "interrobangin."

lyrics

When I was young put on the radio

Listen to the world I would become

War and politics command it

Never mind the beating of a drum

My mind, it listened patiently

My ears grew tired of the solemn noise

My heart grew numb to all of it

Now curiosity we must avoid

When it all comes down again

Bear in mind, it’ll come

I won’t know what’s happening,

What’s hitting me, I’m living free

Mr. Radio, please just let me be

I take some time alone to wonder,

Singing through my mornings for a year

Well, curiosity it got the best of me and

Late one night I turned a hopeful ear.

Confession in the driver’s seat

I lost all touch with races to be run

The taste of metal on my lips

And from my mouth I pull a loaded gun

When it all comes down again

Bear in mind, it’ll come

I won’t know what’s happening,

What’s hitting me, I’m living free

Mr. Radio, please just let me be

Good night Mr. Radio, don’t set your dial on me.
